Give Me Shelter
Type: Individual Project
Duration: October 2019 - December 2019
Role: Exhibition Concept & Experience Designer
The Challenge
On a single night in 2018, roughly 553,000 people were experiencing homelessness in the United States.
Since 2016, homelessness increased (though modestly) for the second year in a row.
Between 2017 and 2018, the number of unsheltered individuals increased by three percent.
What Causes Homelessness?
People can become homeless when they leave prison, care or the army with no home to go to.
Many homeless women have escaped a violent relationship. Many people become homeless because they can no longer afford the rent. And for many, life events like a relationship breaking down, losing a job, mental or physical health problems, or substance misuse can be the trigger.
Being homeless can, in turn, make many of these problems even harder to resolve.
What Can I Do?
Understand the situation of homelessness, listen to their voice
Use a unique perspective to tell the story of homelessness
Deliver an immersive experience, arouse an empath from the visitor
Primary Research
In The 2018 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress Report, it shows over half of all unsheltered homeless people are in Continuums of Care (CoCs) that encompass the nation’s 50 largest cities.

Secondary Research
Invisible People is an American non-profit organization working for homeless people in the United States.
The organization has interviewed homeless people in over 100 cities across the United States and posted their interviews on its website and other social media outlets.
Q: How do we help people that are homeless?
“Just don’t treat them like scum, dude, they are people too. We’re human beings too. We have dreams and aspirations, we just go about life a little differently.”
